Free Book Fair: Glen Haven Elementary

Our first book fair of the school year was this week and we are feeling incredibly grateful!!! Here are some beautiful takeaways from the event:

One girl was looking for a book about cooking and I suggested Bilal Cooks Daal. She was so excited to read it because she explained how much she loved learning about other people and that cooking helps her do just that!

We always bring a large selection of Spanish books and one of the titles we have is Quien es Kamala Harris. Little girl ran up to me explaining how excited she was that Harris was going to be the first woman president. She further told me that her mom was Black and her dad was Spanish, so to receive this specific book in a language she speaks at home was extra special.

A music teacher walked by thinking the books were only for students. After explaining that we appreciate all the hard work of teachers too, I showed her a few of my music favorites. She couldn’t believe I had one on Jimi Hendrix. I like to think it made her day!

One boy was searching and searching without any luck (there are always a few). His teacher grabbed Micah’s Big Question. She thought he’d love it because he was so inquisitive. I then told him that my friend @readlikearockstarteaching wrote it!!! He opened up the pages and yelled, “Micah kinda looks like me!”

One child chose Tuesday is Daddy’s Day and said she was so happy to see another child with divorced parents.

Can I be honest? I needed this. I needed this to fill my cup and keep going. Social media has been awful. Sales have been down. BUT, what we do matters. The impact of books and free books fairs is vast. THANK YOU!
