4 Books for World Down Syndrome Day
The 21st is World Down Syndrome Day and we are here to celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of people with Down Syndrome.
Here are some of our favorite reads:
Hannah’s Down Syndrome Super Powers by Lori Yarborough is the tale of Hannah, a superhero princess who explains all of her Down Syndrome Superpowers. Hannah shows that she is very much like her peers. It is a beautiful story of inclusion.
What’s Inside You is Inside me, too: My Chromosomes Make me Unique by Deslie Quinby and Jeannie Visosootak is an informational picture book about people with Down Syndrome having an extra chromosome and how chromosomes make us special.
You’re all Kinds of Wonderful by Nancy Tillman celebrates the uniqueness in all of us. We all have different abilities and personalities and we all deserve to be honored for who they are.
We’ll Paint the Octopus Red by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen is an endearing book about a little girl named Emma who is anticipating the arrival of her sibling. When she finds out her baby brother has Down Syndrome, she wants to know if there is anything he won’t be able to do. His parents explain with love and help, he will be able to achieve many amazing things.

My Friend Isabelle by Eliza Wilson and I Can, Can You? by Marjorie W. Pitzer are both amazing children’s books with protagonists that have Down Syndrome.
