Free Book Fair: Great Seneca Creek Elementary

We have now donated 200,000 books to kids! I can remember the day when I thought we wouldn’t get to 1,000 books donated let alone 200,000!!!
200,000 kids have had the opportunity to get a free book in which they will feel seen, loved, and valued for who they are.
200,000 books that have taken children on an adventure, that have opened their minds to different perspectives, that have helped them feel proud of who they are.
As I sit here with tears in my eyes, both Kevin and I want to express our immense gratitude to all of you for making this happen.

Today we got to celebrate with another FREE book fair and as always I’d love to share some reflections:
One little boy was SO excited that we had many books with Asian representation. He went with the book, Friends are Friends, Forever.

A little girl came in with a Taylor Swift hoodie on and quickly grabbed a book about her.

A 5th grader came up to me so excited that I had a book about Shirley Chisholm because she did a project about her for Black History month.

So many Black Panther fans. Anytime I have Wakanda Forever, they fly off the shelves!

Quien es Bad Bunny is also always popular!

At the end of the day, the principal and vice principal came in to give me a heartfelt thank you and presented me with a plant and a handmade bullfrog (the school’s mascot). This small gesture made my week!!!
Books are powerful. Books are joyful. Books change lives. Now, here’s to one million!!!!
